Audio sketches #4: Improvised instrumentals

It was at 2:15pm on Saturday 28th January 2023 that the first home studio recording after a year's hiatus was realised. That track ('Ill') was one of five improvised and recorded that day. Five more were captured by the end of the month, with another four coming to fruition in the first week of February and the remainder in April, the last on Saturday 15th. This was immediately followed by the recording of six songs during an extended session which stretched into the early hours of the following day. Although having already been roughly demoed (see 'AUX') they were the first home studio songs recorded since late autumn 2021 and feature on the albums 'afk' and 'Alibis & Accidents'. Those two records devolved from plans for a double album project under the working title 'A Head Full Of Weather'; conversely I had intended the improvised instrumentals collected here to form two separate albums but they rather obstinately remain as one. The 2023 tracks are bolstered by three bonus pieces improvised and recorded in early/mid January 2022, which turned out to be the last home studio work for a year. Released simultaneously with 'afk', 'Alibis & Accidents' and 'AUX', 'Arrival' brings things full circle, looking back from the other side of a strange hiatus.
